Labour Expert Calls On Organisations To Put In Place Proper Succession Plan
A Labour Expert, Abraham Yalley is calling on the government to decline the contract extension of all persons past their retirement age.
His comment comes on the back of the extension of contract of the former Deputy Director General (MS) of Ghana Education Service, Mr Anthony Boateng.
However, teacher unions in a press release requested Mr Anthony Boateng to decline the offer from the President and the Ministry of Education.
Per the release, they call on all retired persons in the Ghana Education Service (GES) to hand over immediately to the next line and proceed with their compulsory retirement.
Speaking on Spice 91.9FM, Mr Yalley noted that, the employer can extend contracts of retired persons who possess quality output.
He said, even though it is in the right direction for employers to extend contracts of their employees, however, there are more qualified persons available for such positions.
He advises organisations to always put in place a succession plan which focuses on equipping other employees who have potential.
” The employer has a right to do an extension. In this case, SSNIT payment is exempted.
Nothing stops anyone from working after a pension, one can work on a contract.
However, there has to be a succession plan in every institution for pensioners else other employees would be denied growth in the institution. When pensioners refuse to retire, it brings challenges to the organisation,” Mr Yalley said.
