National Tanker Drivers Defiant To Call Off Strike

Many Consumers of the Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) continue to express worry over the ongoing strike of the tanker drivers.

According to the Union, they are ready to join hands with the government to find a lasting solution to the problem.

Speaking in an interview with the media, the Chairman of the Petroleum Tanker Drivers Union, George Nyaunu said, a strike is not a punishment to Ghanaians but is drawing attention to the government on what needs to be done.

He has therefore called on consumers to bear with them as they try to find an amicable solution with the government.

Mr Nyaunu justified the industrial action saying members of the Association can no longer trust the government.

He said any agreement reached with the government to resolve their grievances should be written.

“We are not here to punish Ghanaians. We, also use LPG in our homes and so we are not holding the whole nation to ransom. The Association is pleading with them to bear with us. If we want to address an issue, we need to address it once and for all. We are expecting authorities to call us before the table but we have not heard from them, if they call us we are ready to meet them.

Anything they want to say to us should be written,” He said.

Mr Nyaunu further added that the strike is an attempt to ensure authorities lift the ban on operations of LPG stations but they are ready to honour any call from government to begin an engagement.

“We are in to serve Ghanaians. I heard somewhere that we refused a call from the government, it is not true. The time they called us was wrong where we were also having a meeting.” He said.
