Vice Chancellor Of UMAT Urges Students To Be Innovative To Add Value To Things Around Them
The University of Mines and Technology, UMaT in a bid to transform innovations into direct commercial ventures for economic and social gains in the country has over the years engaged in extensive research in the fields of mining and technology to help combat the diverse challenges confronting the mining, environmental, energy and other related sectors.
The University mostly uses innovations showcased at the Annual Innovation and Career Fair as a medium to engage industry, academia and those interested in innovation in mining, petroleum and other engineering-related disciplines.
Speaking at a press briefing on the 6th Innovation and Career Fair dubbed, Think Smart: Be Innovative 2022 ,in Tarkwa, the Vice Chancellor of UMaT, Professor Richard Kwasi Amankwah said the three-day event is part of the University’s 70th Anniversary celebration as a means of encouraging students to be innovative and add value to things around them.
According to him, the world cannot do without innovation and as part of its mandate, the University would ensure to provide innovations that will make distinctive contributions to proffer practical solutions to societal problems.
Professor Amankwah noted that, for any institution, the products that emerge out are necessary and as such will continue to produce individuals that will impact the country positively.
Adding that providing service to the community is their own way of giving back.
The Head of the University Relations Office, Mr. Bright Eshun said from 1952 to date the University has contributed its quota to society by bringing out ideas in the area of research to strengthen mining and other related sectors.
According to him, they will not relent but continue to provide research that will develop the country and the world.
He explained further the rationale behind the programme.
