EC reaffirms commitment to fair and peaceful December elections
The Electoral Commission (EC) has reiterated its dedication to delivering peaceful and transparent elections in the upcoming December polls, emphasizing that its reputation is at stake.
Speaking at the launch of Citi FM and Channel One TV’s 2024 General Elections coverage in Accra, Dr. Eric Bossman Asare, Deputy Chairperson in charge of Corporate Services, assured the public of the EC’s commitment to upholding electoral integrity.
He noted that the commission is aware of the scrutiny it faces both locally and internationally and stated that failure is not an option.
“The commission is fully committed. Our reputation is on the line,” he said, adding that the EC is determined to deliver a successful election.
Dr. Asare emphasized the importance of the presence of party agents at polling stations to ensure transparency and clarity during the counting process.
He also expressed confidence that the EC will once again deliver a credible election.
In a related development, the Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO) has called for strict action against those who commit electoral offences.
National Coordinator of CODEO, Albert Arhin, urged law enforcement to prosecute offenders as a deterrent, stressing that electoral offences threaten the democratic process.
