Fuel Tanker Overturns At Loading Point Near Effia

A fuel tanker with registration number GT – 1678 -11 has toppled onto the main road close to Pacific Oil Filling Station, located near Summer Lodge Junction within Effia Kwesiminitsim Municipal Assembly.

According to the driver, Nuru Suranka , the tanker came to offload diesel products to its clients. The truck suddenly veered onto the main road hence crashing into a parked vehicle along the road.

An eye witness who is also a fuel attendant at the Pacific Station said, the truck came to offload some products and before they realised the truck was on the road.

” The truck came here this afternoon around 1pm to offload some products for us, and before we could realise the vehicle was on the road,” She said.

In an interview with the driver, he narrated what ensued before the truck got involved in an accident.

“I was asked to come and offload some products to the Pacific Fueling Station. Upon reaching here, I asked my mate to chalk the truck. He used the ‘chalk’ to prevent the truck from moving but it moved onto the road anyway. The truck has been parked for an hour waiting for the supervisor to oversee to the offloading. When we were about to offload the truck moved onto the road suddenly,” He said.

He reveals that the tanker contained 27,000 litres of diesel to be offload at the Fueling Station.

For now , no casualty has been recorded.

The Fire Service, and Police are at the scene to salvage the situation.

The Deputy Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), Linda Afua Pongo, the await a recovery truck to tow the truck to a safe place as well as to prevent people from siphoning fuel.

Meanwhile, the road has been blocked to traffic and an alternative route has been provided for passing vehicles.
