Deputy Secretary General of Trade Union Congress (TUC) Joshua Ansah, has urged Ghanaian workers to constantly check from Social Security National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) and their tier two fund managers whether their employers are paying their monthly contributions to the Scheme.
This is to ensure their safety and security during retirement.
Workers have often complained about the small salaries paid to them by SSNIT during their retirement after contributing to the Scheme for many years. They have often alleged that SSNIT is short-hanging Ghanaian workers.
Mr Ansah gave the advice during TUC’s regional engagement with SSNIT to educate workers on the business and operations of the Scheme.
The Director General of SSNIT, Dr John Ofori Tenkorang also advised that the total pension emoluments of workers should not only be the SSNIT Scheme.
He explained that workers should be much more critical and concerned about contributions to their tier two and three Schemes by their employers an provident fund which some employers refuse to pay sometimes.
Dr Tenkorang noted that what one contributes to SSNIT whilst working is what is calculated for them to receive during their retirement.
