NPP Communicator Calls On Government To Apologize To Ghanaians
The Presiding Member of Shama District Assembly, Hon Emmanuel Mark Ackon has beckoned to the ruling government to offer unqualified apology to Ghanaians.
His comments come on the back of the government turning to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for a bailout to save Ghana’s ailing economy.
“I would have wished the New Patriotic Party (NPP) render an unqualified apology to Ghanaians, if all NPP members have a mindset like mine. I say this because we didn’t know Russia- Ukraine war will come, COVID-19 will come to affect us to go to IMF which we insisted we wouldn’t go,” He touted.
He said, it would be a honorable thing to do as a party.
Mr Ackon believes that Ghanaians would forgive the NPP if an apology is offered for ‘eating back their words’.
Ghana’s return to the IMF came as a surprise to many as the ruling government assured citizenry that the country won’t return to the Fund no matter the circumstances.
Ghana, one of the West African countries with the largest economies, held formal talks with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on a support package, the government has said, only days after hundreds took to the streets protesting mounting hardship.
The cabinet gave its support for the decision at a meeting on Thursday, following a phone conversation between President Nana Akufo-Addo and IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva.
Until now, Ghana, the continent’s second-biggest gold producer, had refused to seek IMF support to rescue an economy crippled by the pandemic, rampant inflation and a depreciating currency, despite analysts warning it is close to a debt crisis.
