Seek Expert Advice Before Starting Poultry Farming – Veterinary Director

The Western Regional Director of Veterinary Services Dr Simon Gbene has admonished potential poultry farmers to obtain useful information from veterinary officers as a way of improving the poultry industry.

This he said, would help to assess the advantages and disadvantages which come with the farming of poultry.

According to him, poultry farming is capital intensive thus farmers can make informed decisions based on guidance in terms of animal husbandry.

He also advised farmers to register their lands as farmlands to avoid losing them without being compensated.

“We recommend to prospective farmers to come to the veterinary services for helpful information to aid in poultry farming. When starting a poultry farm, register the land as farmland in order not to risk losing your compensation should there be any development or expansion on the land by city authorities.

Many people have fallen out of business because they couldn’t feed the poultry because of a lack of information on poultry farming The poultry industry requires money, and that is why we advise potential farmers to come for needed information,” He said.

Dr Gbene made mentioned of the various diseases which affect poultry birds and how best farmers can treat them.

Poultry farming is the form of animal husbandry which raises domesticated birds such as chickens, ducks, and turkeys to produce meat or eggs for food.
