Police Custody

Evans Kyekyeku Oppong who allegedly attempted to use his daughter for money rituals has been remanded into Police custody by an Accra District Court.

The forty-seven-year-old man was arrested last Friday, June 3, 2022, after he was exposed by the Spiritualist he consulted to kill his daughter for the alleged ritual.

The Court remanded him following pleas by the prosecution. The Prosecutor, Chief Inspector Richard Amoah, told the Court that the Police are yet to conduct extensive investigations into the case.

Kyekyeku Oppong has been charged with preparation to commit a crime and his plea is yet to be taken.

The lawyer for the accused Ralph Agyepong was not opposed to the request by the prosecution to have him remanded but prayed the Court to order the Police to allow him access to his client to have a conference with him.

The Magistrate Ama Adomako Kwakye accordingly directed the Police to allow the lawyer access to the accused on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 9 am and 5 pm.

According to the Prosecutor, the accused lived in Holland for many years but relocated to Ghana a year ago. He said last month, the accused allegedly discussed with his friend his financial difficulties. Chief Inspector Amoah said the friend then suggested that the accused person needed spiritual cleansing to turn things around for him.

The friend allegedly introduced Kyekyeku Oppong to one Nana Fosu to assist him to see a Spiritualist for help.

The Prosecutor stated further that last May 29, Nana Fosu took the accused to a Spiritualist and Herbal Practitioner Nana Adu-Boafo at Oyibi in Accra for money rituals. Chief Inspector Amoah said the Spiritualist directed the accused to buy a live python from Kasoa to be used for the money rituals.

The accused allegedly told the Spiritualist that he was afraid of snakes and therefore suggested human sacrifice. Chief Inspector Amoah informed the Court that the Spiritualist feigned interest and told the suspect to furnish him with the date of birth of his last two children to enable him to determine the suitable one for the sacrifice.

Having provided the birthdays and selected the suitable child for the ritual, the Spiritualist alerted the Oyibi Police about the intended human sacrifice. The Spiritualist allegedly instructed the accused to bring his daughter to his Herbal Centre last Friday for the rituals but called in the police to arrest Kyekyeku Oppong.

The case has been adjourned to June 20, 2022.
