Western Region is ranked among the top five regions in the country with high HIV infections. As of December 2021, more than Eighteen Thousand (18,000) persons were infected in the country.
Herbalists in the region, have made made progressive improvement in their medicine, as they have mention that it will boost the immune system of infected persons. Usually stigma pushes most persons living with the disease to refuse to take in the orthodox drugs that will help them live longer.
Herbal medicines are medicines traditionally derived from plants, mixed with flavour. These medicines which are often patronized for their dietary purposes are sold as tablets, capsules, powders, teas, extracts, and fresh or dried plants.
Speaking exclusively to Business Daily, a Herbal Doctor Emmanuel Adomako has mentioned that herbal medicines have diverse functions to maintain or improve health and is currently growing with advanced research into improving herbal medicine.
“Our drugs are very effective for so many conditions such as typhoid, hepatitis B, infertility. Our medications, I won’t say cure HIV but our drugs help to boost your immune system.,” he said.
Herbalism is not currently a regulated profession and there are no specific entry requirements to become a herbalist, Emmanuel Adomako claims there are Business opportunities in the herbal industry.
