ECOWAS commends Dr. Bawumia for demonstrating leadership and upholding democratic values

Chairperson of the ECOWAS Observer Mission, Sahle-Work Zewde, has praised Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), for his dignified acceptance of the results of the 2024 general election.
During a media briefing, the Observer Mission acknowledged Dr. Bawumia’s dedication to upholding Ghana’s democratic principles. His acceptance of the election outcome was recognized as an act of strong leadership and patriotism. Dr. Bawumia also extended his congratulations to President-elect John Dramani Mahama, reflecting a commitment to national unity and respect for the democratic process.
Sahle-Work Zewde underscored Ghana’s continued role as a model of democracy in Africa, highlighting the country’s adherence to the values laid down by its founders.
She also pointed out that the election’s peaceful conduct, especially in rural areas, and the well-organized management of polling stations were critical to its success.
The African Union Election Observation Mission joined in commending Dr. Bawumia’s statesmanship, acknowledging his prioritization of national and public interests.
