EKMA Health Directorate Supports School Girls with Sanitary Pads Ahead of World Menstrual Day

The Effia Kwesimintsim Municipal Health Directorate has donated 360 pieces of sanitary towels to pupils of the Whindo Cluster of School with the Municipality.

Amongst the schools which benefited from the donation are Whindo Junior High, Whindo-Assakae M.A and Methodist Primary Schools.

The donation was in the help of the World Menstrual Hygiene Day slated for May 28 2022, to help needy school-going feminine pupils in the common care of menstrual hygiene practices.

Speaking with Beach Newsroom, the Health Promotion Officer, Emelia Kpodo said, it is relevant that adolescent girls get education on menstrual hygiene to maintain cleanliness.

She added that some girls depend on men to provide sanitary products during menstruation, which results in teenage pregnancy.

” Statistics shows that most girls sleep with men in whatever way to get sanitary products, so we are here to create an awareness on menstrual hygiene and to offer to them sanitary pads which was sponsored by Honourable Kojo Acquah ,” she said.

The Municipal Public Health Nurse, Madam Charlotte Baffour Awuah subsequently, used the alternative to name all well-meaning people and organizations to get on board to reach out to more girls in the Municipality.

She explained their reason for selecting the Whindo cluster of schools.

” We chose this school because there are lots of females here. We solicited for sponsorship and the Assembly offered us some cartons of sanitary towels to the girls as part of the Menstrual Hygiene Day,” she stated.

Some students expressed their gratitude for the kind gesture by the Directorate.

“There are lots of things we have learnt today. We’ve learnt that menstruation is not a taboo but a natural process every female goes through. We thank them the team for the education.”
