DIY Should Be A National Policy– Former Presiding Member, STMA
For Africans to achieve the pinnacle of economic resilience , a do-it-yourself should be a national policy for all African States, a former Presiding Member of Sekondi Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA), Edwin Philip has said.
Citing Ghana as an example, Edwin said, the country is far advanced to be self-reliant in terms of economic development.
“Once you depend on some countries for survival, it becomes difficult for you to develop,” he said.
He said, the vision of uniting as Africans have become lame because of personal gains exhibited by some African states.
Mr Philip was of the view that, the Economic States for the West African States (ECOWAS) has failed to change the mindset of uniting as Africans as well as gaining economic independence, referring to the weak trade policies amongst them.
This, he believes hampers trade amongst African states.
“All African states have created borders where goods from one state go through inspections and so on. We cannot unite with such a mentality. The system is weak,” he touted.
This year’s celebration is centred on nutrition, with the African Union Theme for the year 2022, “Strengthening Resilience in Nutrition and Food Security on the African Continent.”
The Former Member reckoned that the advanced countries have adopted such a policy of which have propelled them to be independent of other nations.
He, however, called on leaders to build a solid foundation on which the African unity can be built on and eschew divisions amongst the African continent.
