Students of Takoradi Technical University Battle Acute Water Shortage
Students of the Takoradi Technical University have been battling against acute water shortage for almost 5 months. Students have been roaming around with their gallons, buckets, rubber bowls and other containers in search of water for their daily chores.
Some indicated that after classes, they are compelled to walk long hours and join long queues for water for their activities.
Speaking to Beach Newsroom, some attributed the unclean water that flows through their pipes sometimes to the illegal mining.
Some of the students added that the unavailability of water forces them not to take their bath in the morning before leaving for classes.
They say the cost of water is not cheap as there has been an increase in both pipe-borne water and sachet water, and bemoaned that the cost of water is having a toll on their money for upkeep.
A student disclosed that, she used to get two buckets of water for GH¢1.00 but now she can only get 3 sachet of water for the same amount.
” It is really affecting and costing me a fortune and because of that I don’t even feel like coming to school. Sometimes, I don’t take my bath before leaving for lectures, and those who sell it too have increase their rates. At first, I used to get buckets of water for GH¢1.00 but the same amount can only fetch me three sachet of water. Now a bucket of water goes for GH¢ 1.50ps. Why? ” She said.
