Be Cautious of Purchasing Cosmetics Online – FDA Warns
A Regulatory Officer at the Food and Drugs Authority in the Western Region, Prince Ebo has cautioned the public to look out for unapproved products displayed for sale online.
Speaking exclusively with Beach News Room, Ebo revealed that consumers are purchasing products that may not be approved, and could possibly contain harmful substances which could be detrimental to their health.
” Our concern has to do with the composition used by these manufacturers in making these hair and skincare products which are displayed and sold online. Most cosmetics are formulated from chemicals which consumers are not sure of whether it is good for their skin, or hair.
Some of the chemicals are harmful and can easily expose a person to skin diseases, he noted.
He said the FDA is challenged with scrutinizing cosmetic products displayed online to ascertain the originality and wholesomeness of the products hence cautioned buyers to exercise restraints when buying cosmetics online.
“When we are registering products, we go through labels, products composition analysis so that in cases of these cases, we can easily track the manufacturers and suppliers.
But with cases of products sold online, FDA is challenged with credible information on such products. Consumers should look out for important information of products before purchasing,” Ebo stated.
