The Western Regional branch of the Bible Society of Ghana, BSG in collaboration with the Takoradi Technical University, TTU-SRC Chaplaincy Board has commemorated this year’s United Bible Societies, UBS day with a one-day special prayer program to promote togetherness as well as spiritual growth.
The day which falls on May 9 each year is set aside to pray for the Bible Ministry as well as the ministry of Bible Societies around the world.
The day was on the theme, “May the glory of God be seen across the Earth”. Speaking in an interview with the media on the sidelines of the celebration at Takoradi, the Western Regional Manager of the Bible Society of Ghana, Elder Emmanuel Coffie said the UBS which was founded on May 9, 1946 is a global fellowship of around 150 Bible Societies operating in more than 240 countries and territories.
He said UBS was formed on the foundation of making the Bible available and accessible to everyone who wants it, and to help people engage with its message in meaningful and relevant ways.
Elder Coffie said the day was specifically dedicated to prayer to enable the society have a united voice before the Lord and make known their supplications to Him.
According to him, the collaboration with the TTU-SRC Chaplaincy Board was to encourage the youth and also to draw them closer to God.
“We decided to denote this day for prayer and the reason is that the Bible ministry is a spiritual engagement , so one of it is for us to have a united voice, where we will go before God and call him. When we say, United Bible Societies Day of prayer, we could even do a lunch or get -together but in the Western Region we decided to have this event with the TTU students Chaplaincy
Per our strategic documents for this year, we decided to reach out to the youth and we thought it will be prudent to bring the youth on board at least to share with them, our vision and mission. ” he said.
Touching on the theme, Elder Coffie said it is a step in the right direction as the word of God has the power to transform.
“For us in the Western Region, we have chosen the theme, “The Glory of God according to Numbers 14:21″. That is what we are focusing on. We belief strongly that God’s word has power, and that power will let people see the glory of God,” Mr Coffie added.
