Otto Addo granted Permission to continue as Black Stars coach- Dortmund

Interim Black Stars head coach, Otto Addo says he has the permission of the German side, Borussia Dortmund to work as Ghana’s senior national team gaffer.

The agreement will see Otto Addo retain his position at Dortmund while overseeing the affairs of the Black Stars ahead of the 2023 AFCON qualifiers.

Addo, together with his backroom staff, led Ghana to the Qatar 2022 World Cup, beating Nigeria on away goals to secure a spot.

After securing a ticket to the Qatar World Cup, President Akufo-Addo urged the Ghana Football Association to find the best solution to keep the backroom staff ahead of the football Mundial.

Speaking in an interview with Hamburger Abdenblatt Podcast, Otto Addo confirmed Dortmund has agreed to allow him to manage the Black Stars of Ghana.

“I got permission from Dortmund. Under certain conditions, it works out that I can do the international game phases in June, September and also the World Cup,” he stated

The Ghana Football Association is yet to clarify the future of Otto Addo and his three assistants, after their contracts run out on March 31.

A line on Wikipedia says about Addo: In December 2013, Addo was appointed as the head scout of the Ghana national football team and prior to the 2014 FIFA World Cup and 2015 Africa Cup of Nations succeeding Ibrahim Tanko following the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations and 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.

In April 2019, it was announced that Addo would work for former club Borussia Dortmund as a ‘talent coach’, having previously held a similar role at Borussia Mönchengladbach since 2017
