W/R : 11 persons granted GH¢30,000 bail over Esiama riots

The Takoradi Circuit Court ‘B’ presided over by Her Honour Abigail Animah has granted a 30, 000 cedis bail with three sureties to the 11 persons charged with rioting and causing unlawful damage to the Esiama District Police Headquarters.

Their arrest follows the shooting to death of a resident of Telekubukazo during the prosecution of some illegal miners arrested from the Adamus Resources Concession’ at Nkroful.

Speaking to the media after the court hearing, one of the four lawyers representing the 11 accused persons, Philip Fiifi Buckman while happy for the bail said, they will first have to met the bail conditions.

“The prosecution has consolidated the suit. The first charges were withdrawn and discharged the accused persons and brought them together in 11.

Each person is going to provide 3 sureties, 2 to be justified and that’s the court’s decision”, he stated.

Meanwhile, the Youth of Telekubukazo as well as family of the late Andrews Donkor, who was allegedly shot and killed by security personnel at Nkroful has increased calls for the Inspector General of Police and the Commission on Human Right and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) to investigate the killings of some residents on the premises of Adamus Resources Mines.

Addressing a press conference today at Bokazo in the Ellembelle District, the convener of the youth, Jerry John Amose expressed concern about the inability the Police in the area to arrest the security personnel who shot and killed Andrew Donkor.

“Till date no investigations have been made on the death of our brother. We call on IGP to call his men to order so that our youth can return home for peaceful resolution of the issue, “he stated.

He however called on CHRAJ to as a matter of urgency form a Commission of Inquiry to investigate incident which led to shooting and killing of Andrews Donkor and the culprit brought to book.

They lastly reached out to the Lands and Natural Resources Ministry, Minerals Commission and Environmental Protection Agency to investigate the activities of Adamus Resources Company in Telekuboazo.
