The National Road Safety Authority of the Effia Kwesimintsim Metropolitan Assembly (EKMA), is embarking on a one-week campaign to sensitize drivers and pedestrians in the Metropolis.
According to the Municipal Roads Safety Officer, Irene Chelsey Aryee indicated that the campaign is targeted at reducing the number of carnages recorded during celebrations like Easter.
For her, the statistics recorded for road accidents from January to March 2022 have seen a sharp rise hence the need for the campaign.
“We can’t sit aloof and look on whilst people are perishing in a road accident. We have partnered with the Assembly, organizations, and other stakeholders to come on board to facilitate the education given to drivers to reduce road crashes this Easter and beyond,” she stated.

As part of the week-long Easter campaign activities, drivers and other road users in Kwesimintsim enjoyed a free eye screening as well as education on some road signage to ensure safety on roads.
For his part, the Security Coordinator for EKMA, WO Steve Manwyo, said, the campaign to ensure the safety of road users is a step in the right direction and the Assembly sees it as paramount and appealed to the media to continue to help in disseminating road safety education for both drivers and pedestrians.
Irene Aryee revealed that the enforcement exercise is to ensure drivers abide by the rules on the road and exhibit professionalism on the road.
She cautioned drivers to avoid installing unprescribed lamps on their vehicles and ensure their vehicles are in good shape before hitting the road and charged station masters to make sure drivers exhibit proper behaviors on the road.
The Public Relations Officer, Alhaji Isaiah, said the Assembly is committed to the campaign spearheaded by the Road Safety Authority.
The campaign is on the theme: “Slow Down, Save a Life ….. Slow Down and Cross the Road”.
The campaign is carried out in collaboration with the Ghana Ambulance Service, Ghana Police Service, Fire Service, and Urban Roads amongst other key stakeholders
