Update: GPRTU Suspends Increment of Transport Fares to Next Week

The Ghana Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has extended the timelines for the increment in transportation fares to next week.

According to the Union the percentage change in transport fares will be finalized after a meeting with the Ministry of Transport on Tuesday, April 12, 2022.

The Industrial Relations Officer of the Union, Abass Imoro tells Citi News in an interview that the Union are proposing a further increment of 15 per cent in transport fares.

“Since we are postponing it, we intend to come out with nothing less than 15 percent but now we haven’t announced it officially. We have to swallow it until after Tuesday’s meeting, he said.

GPRTU as well as other unions met on Monday to consider and announce an increase in transport fares following the recent hikes in fuel prices.

The Union argues that the move has become essential due to the recent surge in petroleum prices and is affecting transportation businesses.
