Leadership of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), has hinted of new transportation fares which will take effect from Friday, April 8, 2022.
This follows an earlier suspension of the 15 per cent increase in transportation fares with hopes that government will make a substantial reduction in fuel prices.
Speaking with the media in Accra, and monitored by Spice 91.9FM, the General Secretary of the Union, Godfred Abulbire said several engagements with government have been unsuccessful hence the need for the new fares.
Abulbuire, however, mentioned that the addition might be more than 15 per cent communicated earlier as fuel prices keep soaring.
He stated that the 15 pesewas reduction on some build up levies and taxes on taxes on fuel prices is not sufficient. He, however, asked commuters to prepare for new prices in the coming days to avoid misunderstandings with drivers and conductors.
Fuel prices have concurrently kept rising as a result of upsurge in the prices of crude on the global market, and to mitigate the rising price of petroleum products at the pumps, the government decided to reduce margins in the petroleum price build-up by a total of 15 pesewas per litre with effect from 1st of April.
This move was to cushion Ghanaians against current economic shocks in the country.
