Pupils and teachers of the Mampong Municipal Assembly Basic School are appealing for toilet facilities amongst other infrastructure to aid teaching and learning. The school authorities have bemoaned the poor state of the one toilet facility in the school.
A teacher who spoke to Spice 91.9FM on conditions of anonymity mentioned that the toilet facility serves the whole community including both pupils and teachers thus putting pressure on the facility.
He added that the toilet facility poses a danger because it is on the verge of collapse due to the pressure mounted on the only toilet amenity. He said all attempts to get authorities to fix damages have yielded no results.
“This issue has been lingering on for a long time. The attention of authorities has been drawn to this pertinent issue but nothing has been done about it. We should not wait for a disaster to strike before things are straightened. The school needs refurbishment, “he said.
He further complained of broken stairs which pose a threat to the Kindergarten children and other pupils of the school and called on authorities to help to rehabilitate the school to fit its purpose.
Speaking to the Parents and Teachers Association (PTA) Chairman, Emmanuel Cudjoe he touted that the Association and school authorities are coming up with plans to salvage the situation to avoid further deterioration in the future.
Reacting to the issue on Spice 91.9FM, Michael Maurice Aggrey spokesperson to the chief of Mampong, stated that during the tenure of the late STMA Mayor K.K. Sam, the Assembly came for a tour to ascertain the nature of the problem, but nothing was done about it.
Maurice Aggrey reveals that the chief and opinion leaders have strategies to help solve the social issues confronting the school and the community at large.
“The chief of Mampong has promised to help with the situation, and to convert the toilet into a state-of-the-art facility to avoid any problems,” he stated.
