Insurance Awareness Coordinators Group launches Insurance Claims Campaign

The Insurance Awareness Coordinators Group (IACG) has launched its first ever insurance claims testimonial campaign, dubbed ‘Insurance Pays’ in Accra. The campaign is expected to enhance insurance uptake in Ghana by explaining and discarding the mistrust that surrounds the insurance claims process. It is expected to last for three (3) months with activities such as talk shows, drama, testimonial videos and radio interviews on TV, radio and digital platforms across the sixteen regions.

The media launch of the campaign was held at the National Insurance Commission (NIC) Auditorium on 24th March 2022 and was chaired by Dr. Justice Ofori, the Commissioner of Insurance.

Dr. Ofori acknowledged the support of its key partner, the German Development Ministry (GIZ) the effort of industry. He remarked that “when people get educated, they begin to appreciate the benefits of Insurance; that is the way to go”.

For his part, Chairman of the Insurance Awareness Coordinators Group (IACG), Wilson Tei, emphasized the importance of insurance pay and elaborated on the campaign call to action which is “Notify, Submit, Get Paid.

He noted that “successful payment of legitimate claims is at the heart of the industry”. He stressed the importance of simplifying the claims process to ensure the public is more confident in insurance.

The GIZ Ghana Head of Programme for Sustainable Economic Development (PSED), Mr Detlev Axel Jahn, however, was confident that the campaign will develop customers’ interest and trust as well as educate the public on the claims process.

The Insurance Awareness Coordinators Group (IACG) is a group made up of all relevant stakeholders in the insurance industry whose objective is to promote insurance awareness and education in Ghana. The membership of IACG is open to all recognized apex bodies, associations and think-tank groupings in the insurance industry and today includes members of the Ghana Insurance Association (GIA), the National Association of Ghana Insurance Agents (NAGIA), the Insurance Brokers Association of Ghana (IBAG), the National Insurance Commission (NIC) among others.
