Scores of pupils injured in train accident at New Takoradi
Scores of schoolchildren have reportedly been injured in a train accident at New Takoradi in the Western region on Thursday, March 10.
The victims are currently receiving treatment at the New Takoradi Health Centre.
Mr Ofori Dakye, an assembly member in New Takoradi explained that the train which serves as a shuttle for school children developed a fault leading to the driver losing control of the locomotive.
In the process, thick smoke started to emanate from the engine area of the train leading the driver to jump out to save himself.
After jumping out, he started to alert others to do same, but it was difficult because the doors were locked and were not responding to command.
Students however managed to break the windows and in the course of escaping, sustained some degrees of injuries. Eight (8) students from Bompeh Senior High School are in critical condition and have been admitted to the New Takoradi Health Centre.
