Nana Angamatsia VI ,Chief of Kejabil has said, natives of Kejabil also deserve equal and better job opportunities offered to non – natives by some companies located in the town
His comment comes on the back of treatment meted out to some indigenes by the COCOBOD Processing Company sited on their traditional land.
He stated that young people are discriminated against especially with regards to job opportunities, adding that indigenes are subjected only to carrying of cocoa beans rather than occupying higher paying positions in some firms citing COCOBOD as an example.
Nana reveals that, calls to the management of COCOBOD to inform community leaders on available job opportunity has proved futile.
Meanwhile , non -natives are rather given better employment opportunities.
“Job issues in Kejabil is abysmal. I have been to their office severally to notify me when there’re job opportunities but they rather employ outsiders, ” he said.
He said, “because the politicians have the ‘muscles’, these companies inform them when there are job vacancies. The politicians in turn bring in their people to work,and neglect the indigenes.
He noted that indigenes are well versed in formal education and can equally occupy better job positions in the COCOBOD.
“There are graduates in the Kejabil Township who have background in accounting, finance etc, who when given the chance can work well,” he stated.
Nana Angamatsia threatened to lead a demonstration as a way to register their displeasure on the actions and unfair handling of recruitment of staff into the COCOBOD.
He believes that a quota should be given to the people of Kejabil and challenged the management of COCOBOD to prove if the indigenes of the land do not have the requisite skills to work with.
It would be recalled that in the early parts of January, Cocoa carriers from the various warehouses of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) begun an indefinite strike to demand for better service condition and increment in salary.
The nationwide strike which begun on Wednesday, January 5, 2022 affected the haulage of the commodity, since the cocoa trucks could not be loaded to the ports for export.
