IWD: Women encouraged to become Determined in Breaking the Bias

As part of the International Women’s Day celebrated on March 8, women have been encouraged to develop a spirit of determination and forbearance to enhance themselves in achieving greatness in their respective careers despite difficulties surrounding them.

A Panel Discussion hosted on Spice 91.9 FM Adekyee Mu Nsem Morning Show hosted by Emma Somia – Kwaw, head of Sales at Databank as part of activities to commemorate International Women’s Day, made the guests share challenges they face in the home, career and other aspects of life with regards to the theme for the celebration.

Speaking on the theme, “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow”, the Deputy Chief Investigator of Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), Efua Yankson mentioned that, women like men go through challenges to learn from it, adding that women deserve to be given equal opportunities to excel just like their male counterpart.

She narrated that her journey to excelling in her career has not been easy but through determination and endurance, she was able to achieve excellence despite receiving criticism from male colleagues.

“The road has not been easy, but you have to learn to succeed with determination. You don’t have to be relegated to the background as a woman. You can make yourself proud, with hard work and discipline,” she said.

Adding on, Regional Director of Department of Gender, Maribel Okine recounted receiving opposition from both males and females in her line of duty nonetheless did not discourage her from moving ahead in her career.

She noted that the challenges women face should rather help them become a better version of themselves. She recalled that making an impact in the lives of other people should be paramount for women as they are the pace pacesetters facets of life.

Madam Okine stated, “Challenges makes you grow as a woman through which experiences are gained”.

For her part, Chief Executive Officer of Ginafil Foods Industries, Rev. Georgina Filson Nyane retorted that women when given the necessary support by men become more successful in their careers.

Touching on inequality meted against women, Madam Maribel encouraged parents to give both boy and girl child the opportunity to thrive and to be independent.

Women are further charged to be financially sound and not to depend solely on their partners for their provisions.
