Medikal tells Court, he is sorry for displaying gun in public, fined GH¢3,600
Musician Samuel Adu Frimpong, popularly known as Medikal, has been convicted to a fine of GHC3,600 by an Accra Circuit Court, for displaying a weapon in public.
In default, he will serve a nine-month jail term. Judge Emmanuel Essandoh ordered that his confiscated gun should be released to him.
Medikal, who seemed remorseful, told the Court that he was sorry for his action.
Prior to the sentencing, Emmanuel Yeboah Gyan, who held brief for Bobby Banson as Counsel for Medikal, announced to the Court their decision to withdraw from the case. Medikal, who had previously pleaded not guilty, today changed his plea to guilty and was accordingly convicted by the Court.
His change of plea came as a shock to the prosecution.
He first appeared before the Court on October 22, 2021, after he was seen brandishing a weapon on social media. He was charged with displaying arms and ammunition in a public place.
Last September whilst in his car, Medikal without any reasonable excuse displayed a pistol and posted the video on his Snapchat social media platform. The video went viral and he was subsequently arrested.
