GJA Condemns Attack on Connect FM’s Journalist

The Ghana Journalist Association, GJA has broken its silence on assault on Connect FM’s Journalist last Thursday, February 3, at God is Love Eatery in Takoradi.

The Association stated that, “it is struggling to come to terms with reports of policemen who renounced the use of reason and abandoned their code of conduct to brutally assault Eric Nana Gyetuah, Producer of Connect FM’s Morning Show in Takoradi for filming them in a public place.”

Commenting on the issue, Lawyer Fiifi Buckman mentioned that, it was wrong for the armed men to assault the Journalist, who is a civilian and was only performing his duty.

Lawyer Buckman defended that, the scene of the armed men eating together with handcuffed persons was unusual and causes threat to the public security.

“If the Police men thought what they were doing was right, they wouldn’t have brutalized the media guy.

It was wrong on the part of the Police Officers to parade suspects in handcuffs in the public space because it poses danger and a threat to the safety of people around.”

He described the action on the Journalist as torture, and so appropriate authorities should be treat such case with all seriousness.
