Sim Card re-Registration – Subscribers share their frustrations.

A cross section of the public has shared their frustrations in the ongoing sim card re-Registration exercise across the country.

The government, through the Ministry of Communications and Digitalization, gave a directive that all Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) cards should be reregistered over a six-month period spanning October 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022 using the Ghana Card.

This according to the Ministry is to synchronize the details on one’s Ghana Card, a national identification card,
The initiative is, therefore, meant to stem the increasing incidents of fraud using the phone and also to monitor and track down persons who would use their phones for all manner of criminal activities.

In other words, it is meant to secure the country’s cyberspace.

It is now commonplace to see people in long queues at the various telecommunication offices and centres in Takoradi hoping to have their SIM cards reregistered.

Some subscribers say they had to go to the reregistration venues early in the morning to get their sim cards reregistered while others had to return to the venue on a second day as they could not be served the previous day, adding that it was stressful going through the exercise.

A visit to some of the telecommunication offices by Spice News Team, some of the subscribers shared their frustrations.

Mannaseh, a subscriber stated that ,he was tired of joining the long queue and decided to leave for work because he wasn’t sure he could get his sim registered.

” It’s past 9am , I’m still in this long queue. I want to go to work , and come back tomorrow for the registration.” He said.

Some complained about the unavailability of seats for them to sit on while they wait for their turn to get their sim registered.

“We’ve been standing in this scorching since morning and no one has bothered to offer us any seats to sit on.” He stated.
