Ahantaman SHS PTA Supports School With a Hostel
The Parents Teachers Association (PTA) at the Ahantaman Senior High School (SHS) in the Western Region has secured a hostel to enable them to take care of students who were previously in the private hostel and new students who could not get boarding.
This has allowed students who were from poor homes and cannot afford a hostel the opportunity as they are fed and housed for free after absorbing utilities and payments of the rent among others.
The PTA has also been able to pay for the allowance of two (2) doctors for the past four (4) months with plans to pay for the allowances of four (4) pantry men and a matron which is pending as well as changing the wire nets of two (2) houses (Sabar House and the new dormitory block).
This was made known by Mr Charles Mintaba, PTA Chairman of Ahantaman SHS in an interview with Spice News at the sidelines of a 3-day Maiden Annual Educational Retreat organised by the Western Regional Directorate of GES in Takoradi under the theme, “Re-Imagining Education: The Western Story.”
He said as a result of the increasing numbers of students engaging in social vices, they instituted a 15-minute talk to the parents on the need to monitor their wards and highlighted the need to be friends of their wards on Facebook which was yielding results.
He hinted that the PTA agreed to at least organize a well-structured career guidance programme for the SHS 3 students to expose them to a well-guided career path and thanked the Board led by the Chairperson, Headmistress and the Management for the level of co-operation giving during the year under review.
Mr Mintaba mentioned that the Association agreed at a meeting that, they were going to contribute to completing the staff flat since out of 160 teachers in the school, only 15 were staying on campus and expressed the hope that by June next year, it will be completed and handed over.
He said considering the number of days the Form Three’s (3’s) stayed at home, the parents agreed at a meeting to contribute to motivating the teachers and commended the management and the teachers for co-operating with the Association.
He further announced that the Association has agreed that from next year they would be supporting the Prefectorial Board to undertake a project before they leave the school.
