Public Cautioned to Observe Precautionary Measures When Shopping for Christmas
Madam Adjoa Fordjour, a Regulatory Officer at the Western Regional office of the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), has cautioned the general public to look out for contaminated foods ahead of Christmas.
She implored shoppers to be extra careful with shops they buy from, as some of the products or wares may be contaminated.
“We advise consumers to be on the lookout for cheap products on the market especially, those with a low price reduction. Such products normally come with short expiry dates which when consumed can affect a person’s health”, she emphasized.
Madam Fordjour made the caution when sensitizing the public on Spice Fm’s Morning Show hosted by Kwame Offei in Takoradi.
She further urged individuals to examine the wholesomeness of products, especially on bottled, paper and canned products which have dents, rusts, leakages and blotted lids on the markets.
Such products, she said, were often “unhealthy for consumption” and should not be purchased under any circumstance.
She, however, advised that fruits and vegetables should be carefully washed before using them as such edibles may contain organisms not seen with the human eye.
madam Fordjour also advised that preparation of food should be done under hygienic conditions and entreated that creating an unhygienic environment results in inviting insects to the homes.
She hinted that the FDA was mandated to provide education and awareness to the members of the public ahead of the festive season, and therefore launched a campaign themed, “Safe Food, Our Collective Responsibility”.
This campaign according to her, was to help protect consumers from buying contaminated products that would have an effect on their health.
