W/R: Records of Vaccinated persons have increased yet not close to Target –Deputy Heath Director
The Deputy Health Director of Public Health Directorate in Western region has commended the improvement in the number of Vaccinated populace after some new measures were put in place.
However, DR. Gifty Amugi believes that there is more room for improvement since there authority is nowhere closer to its target of 1.5 million.
Updating the public on the progress of the vaccination in the region, she shared the impact of setting up two centers for masqueraders in the Metropolis especially at Sekondi Youth Center and Takoradi library respectively explaining that, “The turnout for the masquerade groups were high but the number of the recorded for the vaccination were still low”.
For instance from last week, the figures have seen an increase from 5.8% to 8% which represents those with the two jabs whilst those who have received one jab has risen from 14.7% to 17% as of Monday.
Sekondi – Takoradi has been noted as the hub for festivals such as Takoradi Street Carnival where masquerade groups showcase their dancing skills which attracts people in and across every part of the country.
Thus, she urged the public especially those in the Western Region to get vaccinated as Christmas approaches.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Health Service, has declared December as a vaccination month in a bid to mitigate the fourth wave of the Covid-19 in the country.
This declaration was made by the Director of Ghana Health Service, Dr. Patrick Kuma Aboagye to the media on Sunday, 28 November, 2021 in Accra.
The vaccination in December will be targeted at specific groups and venues including nightclubs, beaches, restaurants.
Persons who intend to visit beaches, restaurants, sports stadiums will thus not be allowed entry if not vaccinated.
There have been reports on a new coronavirus variant detected as the Omicron variant which has not been reported in the country yet.
Madam Gifty Kumi has however entreated the public to get vaccinated to protect themselves from the virus.
