Blame Water Scarcity in Adakope on Urban Roads for lack of consultation before Road Construction-GWC

The Western Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Water Company Limited(GWCL) Nana Yaw Bannie has blamed the Urban Roads as the major culprit for pipelines which are destroyed during the construction of Road in the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolis.

He made this known when he was responding to a concern raised by a resident of Adakope, a suburb of the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly concerning the community’s lack of water supply for a year .

Explaining the reason which has contributed to the shortage of water supply in the area, Nana Yaw Bannie made it emphatic that the problem is not emanating from Ghana Water Company but rather the contractor who has been awarded with the contract to construct the Adakope road.

According to him, the constructor destroyed some of the pipelines in the course of the construction however he blamed the incident on Urban Roads for lack of consultation with Ghana Water Company before awarding and granting permission for constructor to start work on a road.

Mr. Bannie in an interview with on Adzekye Mu Nsem on Spice 9.19 Fm said that the Ghana Water company has written to the urban roads in addition with a budget estimate of the destroyed pipelines for payment to made in other to restore power supply.

He went ahead to added that since the letter was written to demand monies for the purchase of the destroyed pipelines, no feedback has been recieved from Urban Roads

According to Nana Yaw Bannie, there have been series of cautions to Urban Roads to Consult Ghana Water about where the institution’s pipe line passes in other to agree on a strategy to protect them before construction commences
