Stay Away From Abusive Relationships-CHRAJ advices women

Fedelia Owusu Konadu, an investigator at commission on Human Right and Adminstrative Justice, Takoradi, has advised young women to stay out from abusive relationships which infringe on their fundamental human rights and in the worse case scenario could cause death.

She recounted numerous incidents of abuses which go unreported in our society and urged young women to speak up and get help when the need arises.

Speaking on Adzekye Mu Nsem on Spice 91.9 in commemoration of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, Madam Felicia Konadu called on the women in the country to report all forms of abuses to the appropriate authorities for immediate action before the harmed is caused.

“Most a times, women do not report issues of violence to the right authorities but remain silent on such issues.It is important to report the any form of abuse in a relationship to the right authorities before the worse happens”

She went ahead to encourage to women to think about their lives first and speak up on issues of violence.

Madam Fidelia also called on young women to strive towards becoming economically independent either by learning a trade or furthering their education to avoid violence being perpetrated against them.

However, she entreated women to seek free information and counselling at the CHRAJ office on matters around violence

This year, International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women is being celebrated under the theme – Orange The World: End Violence Against Women Now!

The day is to highlight the universal nature of violence against women and girls and acknowledge the particular challenges related to COVID-19, humanitarian and conflict situations.

It further seeks to amplify successes chopped to demonstrate that violence against women and girls is preventable and mobilize greater investment in the proven solutions.

Nearly 1 in 3 women have been abused in their lifetime.

In times of crises, the numbers rise, as seen during the COVID-19 pandemic and recent humanitarian crises, conflicts and climate disasters.
