No Tolls Will Be Collected On All Public Roads: Ken Ofori Atta

The Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta today made an appearance at Parliament to present the 2022 budget.

He made mention of the achievements of his government prior to the COVID year in reviving the economy which they inherited from former President John Dramani Mahama.

He further disclosed that although COVID-19 had affected the economy, Nana Addo and his government are committed to reviving the economy.

Mr.Ofori Atta spoke about how the country was planning on mobilizing revenue. One thing which he mentioned was the road tolls which are collected on the roads. He made a shocking revelation on the decision that the government has taken on this major source of revenue.

“We want to do more roads and this budget will cater for this.

That is why most all governments maintain and impose tolls on public roads for road construction and maintenance. However, the tolling centres are becoming a point of congestion and market centre which lengthens travel time and has impacted negatively on the economy. It also leads to pollution.”, he explained.

He however declared that effective from today, no tolls will be collected on all public roads.

“To address this problem, the government has abolished public tolls collected on the roads.”, he added.
