WR: Police Cautions Media on Kidnap Reportage

The Takoradi Police Divisional Command has urged the media to discreet in their reportage especially with publications of information on their news portal. The Police is calling on the media to confirm information from the Command before such publications are done.

This call comes on the back of a publication of a news story by Paa Kwesi Simpson of Connect Fm about an alleged kidnapping of Stephanie Kumiwaa at Mpohor on October 17.

In a press release signed by the Deputy Superintendent of Police, Olivia Adiku stated that investigations are ongoing.
The victim, Stephanie Kumiwaa 26, on October 17 called the suspect, Stephen Kumi, 33 of her intention of visiting him at home. According to the suspect the visit never happened where he received a call from Stephanie’s friend that Stephanie has been kidnapped and an amount of GH¢2,000.00 was being asked for as ransom.

During interrogations with the police, Stephen revealed that he met Stephanie on Facebook and they started dating. However, efforts by the Police and Stephen to locate the family relations, residence of Stephanie and Sandra for confirmation of the alleged incident proved futile.

However, checks by the Police indicates that no report of such case has been recorded at the Mpohor Police District Command.

Currently, the suspect Stephen Kumi is in Police custody whilst Paa Kwesi Simpson is on Police enquiry bail.
