The Western Regional branch of the Ghana Association of Garages has appointed Justice Joe Ayitey as the Interim Chairman to spearhead affairs of the Association till new executives are elected.
In a regional delegate meeting with the national executives of the Association at Ahenfie Hostel yesterday, majority of the members voted for the interim Chairman.
This has become a significant move to ensure that existing executives whose 8year term has expired are replaced through fresh elections.
Recently the past Chairman of the Association, Kwamena Kwadzi was asked to step aside by National executives of the Ghana National Association of Garages following allegations of embezzlement by some members of the Association against the Chairman.
Also, some members of the Tanokrom Kokompe Garages Association have petition the Sekondi High court to pronounce judgment against the past chairman on the following issues; selling of lands to non victims of the Tanokrom Kokompe Garages relocation and the misappropriation of 5000dollars.
This and many other outstanding issues have necessitated an adhoc decision by the Ghana National Association of Garages to ensure that the organization still runs effectively despite the internal ranglings hence the need for the appointment of an interim chairman to manage affairs of the Associtation in the mean time.
In an exclusive interview with Spice News Justice Joe Ayitey, acknowledged the fact that the task ahead is going to be challenging but indicated his readiness to live up to expectations and provide leadership that will bring major positive changes to the Association.
“This is a big task, people know that I am a people’s person; though per the rules I cannot contest for any position as an interim Chairman but I am not worried, I am concerned about bringing major changes that will bring relieve to all members of the Association. For 21 years of some executives Kokompe Garages Association have been mismanaged and we are here to correct the wrong’’ he stated.
Lamenting on the Welfare of the members of the Association, the interim chairman said that the current state of members welfare in the Association is nothing to write home about.
“Our welfare is very bad; you will not like it if we go for the funeral of any of our members, there is the need for us to step up, this position is not a one man job so I am opened up to fresh ideas to improve state of affairs”
The treasure of the Ghana National Association of Garages, Sammy Alphonsis Majdoub stipulated some of the expectations from the interim Chairman.
“He is expected to remobilize members of the association in all the districts by registering all of them and ensuring that the already existing members have their I.D cards. After the exercise we will plan for the elections so that we could get substantive chairman. We are not given him any deadline but we expect him to speed up”.
All members of the Association have been urged to register for their membership cards and certificates.
It is only the registration as a member of the association that can guarantee members a voting right.
Justice Joe Ayitey, Interim Chairman is an experienced Mechanic who established at Kokomo in 1981. He has trained numerous apprentices in the Sekondi Taokoradi Metropolis and beyond.
