EKMA Loses At least GH₵ 3,000 on Jubilee Grounds every Week amid COVID-19

The Public Relation Officer of Effia Kwesiminstim Municipal Assembly (EKMA), Alhaji Issah, has said that the release of Jubilee grounds to the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly amid COVID-19 costs the Assembly at least GH₵ 3,000 every week.

The arrangement happened when EKMA and STMA went into a temporary agreement in maintenance of COVD-19 protocols at the Market Circle, Takoradi through the release of the venue for relocation purposes.

According to him, all things been equal, people who hire the facility on weekends mostly use it for three days, that is from Friday to Sunday at a cost of Gh500 each day. This avenue for revenue generation for the Assembly is no more in existence. He noted.

“It currently costs Gh 500 to rent the facility for a day and mostly, people rent it for three days on a roll. The facility can contain two separate lessees on a weekend, now per the current arrangement all these revenues are not coming to the Assembly any more ’’.

He also added that since the market folks were relocated to the Jubilee grounds, STMA has been in charge of all revenue collection from the venue.

However the Assembly feels proud of supporting and collaborating with a partner in development to safeguard the lives of thousands, the PRO asserted .

Speaking on Adzekye Mu Nsem on Spice 91.9 with Kwame Offei on   the preparation to reclaim the facility to its former use, Alhaji Issah however advised the market women to take notice of the final relocation date on July 31st 2021 to the new temporary site popularly known as slaughter house, around the Paa Grant Round About, and adhered to all protocols. “The management of the facility is expected to be officially handed over to EKMA by 1st August”.

EKMA on 25th July 2021 also issued a  2-Week Automaton to caution owners of idles Stores/Stalls at the Apramodo  Market to commence operation or loose their shops.
