Mr Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah

Mr Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, Western Regional Minister has charged all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) in the region to lead the charge to maintain general law and order in their respective jurisdictions.

The Minister who is also the Chairman of the Regional Security Council (REGSEC) further charged Metropolitan Security Council (METSEC), Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) and District Security Council (DISEC) to come out with comprehensive and proactive measures to deal decisively with crime in their respective jurisdictions.

The charge comes at a time that the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis, within a week, has experienced three (3) reported armed robbery incidents which has left one person dead and two (2) others with gunshot wounds.

Mr Darko-Mensah gave the charge in a press statement after the REGSEC met on Tuesday 13th April, 2021 to discuss measures to enhance security in the Metropolis and the Region as a whole.

He deemed the situation which understandingly, has made some residents apprehensive to the extent of making it difficult for them to go about their normal daily activities as very unfortunate and worrying development.

“The Regional Security Council (REGSEC) shares in the grief and difficult moments of the victims, especially the bereaved families. However, in the coming days and months, a number of measures would be implemented for the security and safety of all and sundry”, he empathised.

He said the REGSEC after the meeting concluded that an amount of Ten-Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHC 10,000.00) bounty should be awarded for information that will lead to the arrest of the culprits in the murder case, that Police visibility should be increased at vantage points, that random Police checks on motorbikes, vehicles/passengers on all roads should be intensified and regular patrols by joint Police and Military Personnel should be followed.

Mr Darko-Mensah further announced that the Police together with other sister security agencies were working around the clock in order to apprehend the perpetrators of this heinous crime.

However, he stressed that to complement the efforts of the security agencies, the general public should volunteer credible information to the Police and also report any suspicious characters of criminal intent, in order to help fight crime in the region.
