Chieftaincy And Religious Affairs Minister Holds Thanksgiving Service
Lawyer Ebenezer Kojo Kum who doubles as the Minister of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs has embarked on a thanksgiving service to appreciate the electorates for reposing confidence in him in the just-ended 2020 elections.
He also expressed gratitude to God and the people in the Ahanta West constituency for renewing the mandate of President Nana Akufo-Addo for another deserving term for him to do more.
He thanked the rank and file of the party particularly, Executives and Campaign Team members at the Constituency, Electoral Area, and Polling Station levels for their hard work in achieving the victory.
He emphasized that since 1969 to the inception of democracy till date, no son of the constituency has been appointed as Minister or even a Deputy Minister excep Nana Addo’s tenure.
Lawyer Kojo Kum therefore thanked President Akufo-Addo for nominating and providing an opportunity for him to serve in his government.
He reiterated his commitment to uphold the honor done to the people of the constituency by working hard and expressed the hope of seeing a great and wonderful performance from his new office.
However, he bewailed the issue of chieftaincy disputes in the region especially, the constituency and called on the chiefs to work quickly to resolve all disputes to pave way for peace, progress and development.
He said, even though the government would remain committed to its policy of non-interference in chieftaincy matters, it would not shun its responsibility of ensuring peace for the people to go about their normal duties.
Mr Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, Western Regional Minister who graced the occasion also bewailed chieftaincy disputes in the region, a situation he said, was dividing the people and impeding development in the communities.
He therefore implored chieftaincy litigants to stop fomenting troubles and to resort to the use of peaceful means to address chieftaincy matters as a way of unifying the people and ensuring peaceful co-existence.
He called on traditional rulers in the region to complement the government’s efforts in enhancing the quality of life of the people through its pro-poor interventions by disseminating information on them to encourage the people to patronage them.
