The Chartered Global Investment Analysts Institute (CGIA) through its Ghana Network has held a one-day scholarship training for selected business and financial journalists in the country.
The participants drawn from the various media spectrum across Ghana in Television, Radio, Prints and online media were taken through series of practical sessions on the broader theme, “Finance and Investment in a Digital Age – Journalists Perspective”.
Mr Isaac Charles Acquah, Vice President of the CGIA Network Ghana who facilitated the training defined digital economy as one collective term for all economic transactions that occur on the internet and an economy that focuses on digital technologies.
He explained that it essentially covers all business, economic, social, cultural and among activities that are supported by the web and other digital communication technologies.
He divulged that digital economy has given rise to many new trends and start-up ideas in that almost all of the biggest companies in the world loke Google, Apple, Microsoft and Amazon were from the digital world.
Mr Acquah who is also Finance and Investment Consultant with strong communication and research skills noted that with the advent of technology and the process of globalization, the digital and traditional economies were merging into one.
He mentioned promotion of the use of the internet, rise in E-Commerce, digital goods and services, and transparency as some merits of digital economy and said this helps reduce the black money and corruption in the market and make the economy more transparent.
However, he mentioned the loss in employment, lack of experts, and need for heavy investment as some demerits and said digital economy requires a strong infrastructure, high functioning internet, strong mobile networks and telecommunication.
Mr Paul Paul Frimpong, Head of Membership Services at CGIA Institute who gave an overview of the Institute said the CGIA Institute is the world’s largest and recognized professional body providing approved designation for the finance and investment industry.
He added that the Institute provides the CGIA program which leads to the award of the CGIA Charter Designation recognized globally.
