Ministry of Youth & Sports is over hyped, has nothing good, Former Dep Minister

Mr Vincent Oppong Asamoah

Former Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports under the erstwhile National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration, Mr Vincent Oppong Asamoah has stated that there is nothing good at his former office which is so over hyped.

According to Mr Asamoah who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Dormaa West Constituency, he will never accept any appointment to serve in that position or the Parliamentary Select Committee on Sports.

“There is nothing good at the MOYS, I will never accept to be on the Sports Committee in Parliament, the MOYS is over hyped and it’s not worth serving in that Ministry”, he bemoaned.

He made the statement when speaking to Abaidoo Abednego on Spice Fm Center Sports in Takoradi.

He was of the view that the immediate past Minister for Youth and Sports, Mr Isaac Asiamah was probably pushed to be changed from the Sports Ministry because of the hardships they go through in getting funds for tournaments.

He contended that though the non formal education sector requires a bigger budget than even the Sports Ministry, so much is demanded from them.

“I think Mr Asiamah was pushed to be changed from the MOYS even though he was pampered by the media, but he had nothing or little to show in terms of achievements”, he stated.

“Even non formal education sector budgets are bigger than theirs but we demand so much from them so they should provide the new Minister with enough resources”, he added.

Mr Asamoah regained his seat as MP for Dormaa West Constituency which he lost in 2016 after he served as the Deputy Minister under former Minister Mr Nii Lantey Vanderpuye during the NDC administration.
