Protect Children from contracting COVID-19, Department of Children

Madam Faustina Yorke Awortwe

Madam Faustina Yorke Awortwe, Western Regional Director of the Department of Children, has described children as a vulnerable group that all must be done to prevent them from contracting COVID-19.

She gave the advice when speaking on Adzekye Mu Nsem on Spice Fm, a local radio in Takoradi in the Western Region to discuss issues of teenage pregnancy in the region and the challenges it impose on the economy so as to get the needed attention to be addressed.

She urged all headteachers and teachers to help the children to strictly follow all the prescribed COVID-19 safety protocols and the regulations spelt out by the Ghana Education Service (GES) as well as consider their welfare as paramount.

She further implored the teachers to encourage the children to observe the COVID-19 safety protocols in order to protect themselves, while they also protect themselves from contracting the virus.

Madam Awortwe also advised parents on the importance of education and the need to be alive in their roles as parents, and as well encourage their wards to be regular at school.

She noted that education was one of the pillars in the development of every country, hence, the government found it necessary to re-open schools for teaching and learning to continue.

She also asked the children to wear their nose masks, wash their hands under running water with soap and not to exchange their nose masks with their friends.

Madam Awortwe pointed out the need for parents to use their limited resources to invest in the education of their wards rather than spending them on things that would not benefit the development and growth of their wards.
