Supreme Court rules in favour of Amewu
The Supreme Court (SC) has quashed the decision of the Ho High Court aimed at stopping Peter Amewu from holding himself as MP-elect of Hohoe seat. It quashed the interim injunction placed on the gazetting of the electoral results of the Hohoe parliamentary.
This means Amewu, Member of Parliament-elect for the Hoehoe Constituency can freely go to parliament and would be sworn into the Eighth (8th) Parliament.
The Apex Court also quashed the interim injunction placed on the gazetting of the electoral results of the Hohoe parliamentary results showing Peter Amewu as winner.
A five-member panel of the Supreme Court quashed the decision of the Ho High Court aimed at stopping Peter Amewu from holding himself as MP-elect for the Hohoe constituency.
The parliamentary election in the Hohoe Constituency resulted in the declaration of the New Patriotic Party’s John Peter Amewu as the winner, having obtained 26,952 (55.18%) of the popular votes.
On December 22, 2020, the results of the parliamentary elections nationwide were gazetted by the Electoral Commission.
But on December 23, 2020, NDC PC in the Hohoe Constituency, through the Ho High Court, placed an injunction on the results after claiming a violation of their human rights in the Hohoe Constituency.
The Attorney General on December 29, filed a motion on notice at the Supreme Court praying the court to quash the decision of the Ho High Court.
