TTU graduates 3,155 students

Graduates at the 5th Congregation

The Takoradi Technical University (TTU) in the Western Region has successfully turned out 3,155 graduands with 13 students awarded with Master of Technology Degree, 524 awarded with Bachelor of Technology Degrees while 2,106 awarded with Higher National Diplomas and 311 awarded with Non-tertiary Diploma for the 2019/2020 academic year.

The breakdown of awards is as follows; for Bachelor of Technology Degree 70 students obtained First Class, 272 obtained Second Class Upper Division, 176 obtained Second Class Lower Division and six Pass.  

For Higher National Diploma (HND) 118 students obtained First Class, 1,105 obtained Second Class Upper Division, 923 obtained Second Class Lower Division, 5 competent with Distinction, 32 competent with Merit, 51 competent and 73 Pass.

Speaking at the 5th Congregation of the University, Rev. Prof John Frank Eshun, Vice-Chancellor of TTU announced that the University, since the last graduation has made a lot of progress with regards to developments.

He said his outfit signed a 3.5 Million Ghana Cedis agreement with the Petroleum Commission to train Ghanaian youth in the upstream oil and gas sector to boost local content in the oil and gas and its allied industries. 

The Accelerated Oil and Gas Capacity training programme (AOGC) forms part of the Government’s strategic agenda to localize most of the expatriate roles for Ghanaians to play critical roles in the production and management of oil and gas resources in the country. 

Rev. Prof Eshun opined that during the period under review, the Petroleum Commission took the decision to establish an Ultra-modern Pipefitting Centre at the University for the Accelerated Oil and Gas Capacity Building Programme. 

“It is envisaged that when this facility is completed, TTU will be the Centre of Excellence in Plumbing, Welding and Fabrication training for the oil and other industries”, he added.

He disclosed that two staff were sponsored by the Petroleum Commission to Canada to be trained in stainless steel welding at the prestigious Northern Alberta Institute of Technology in Edmonton and have returned and providing training services.

He urged the graduates to use credentials from the University productively since our world has been facing myriad of challenges, so that they can bring a unique perspective to the narrative.
