Make 2020 Elections Violence free, Persons With Disabilities Plead
Persons With Disabilities (PWD’s) have made a passionate appeal to politicians and electorates in Ghana to consider their plight by making the December 07 elections violence-free and peaceful.
They stressed that persons with disabilities were recognised as among the most marginalised and at-risk population in any crisis-affected community, and among the people most at risk during conflicts and humanitarian crises.
The appeal was made by Reverend John Mefful, National President of the Ghana Society of the Physically Disabled (GSPD) at the inaugural ceremony of the Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipal (EKMA) branch of the GSPD.
“We cannot run when they are running, we cannot jump over the wall when they are jumping. Already, we are struggling to survive, what then can we do in the midst of crises?, he lamented.
Rev Mefful therefore called for peace before, during and after the 2020 elections.
“Watch your behaviour and let us use the Court to resolve all misunderstanding”, he emphasized.
Mr John Davies, Presiding Member for EKMA who chaired the ceremony urged drivers to drive cautiously when on the roads especially, during this election period and the yuletide.
According to him, most accidents that occur in the country have been as a result of human errors and has been found to be one of the contributing factors to the disability menace in the country.
Mr Davies also gave the assurance that the Assembly will see to it that money allotted to the Disability Fund is disbursed without delays so that it can be used to improve the lives of members.
Mr Issifu Mahama Gani, Committee Chairman of the branch pledged to work hard with dedication to enable the branch achieve its goals and called on all members to support the Committee Executives in the efforts.
A six-member Executive Committee was sworn into office to lead the EKMA branch of the Society to achieve its mandate.
