Residents of Dumase bark against Golden Star for unfair treatment
Residents of Dumasi, a farming community in the Prestea Huni-Valley Municipality have given a seven day ultimatum to Golden Star Bogoso Prestea Limited, now Future Global Resources to address their concerns or face their wrath.
The folks staged a demonstration recently against the company for the unfair way the company had treated them since they commenced operations.
The residents claim they do not have potable drinking water after the company had polluted their only source of drinking water which had served the community for decades.
As if that was not enough, community members have been prevented from undertaking any project in the community due to a pending resettlement that has spanned more than 14 years.
Presenting their petition to the Administration of Future Global Resources, the leader of the group, Mr Isaac Essien said there have been lots of discussions with Prestea Huni-Valley Municipal Chief Executive, Municipal Police Commander, the company and other stakeholders to address their concerns but to no avail.
Mr Isaac Essien said, “knowing that Golden Star has been sold to Future Global Resources, we are looking for the Whiteman who bought the company and is the one we are looking for to present our petition to”.
He added that “if we don’t hear anything after seven days the demonstration will go on again until they address our concerns”.
General Manager of Future Global Resources, Ahmed Salim Adams who received their petition assured them that it would reach the C.E.O. of the Company and would be addressed appropriately.
