Focus on Ahanta West: Ahanta West Municipal improves on infrastructure
The Works Department of the Ahanta West Municipal Assembly (AWMA) in the Western Region during the period under review has overseen the completion of some projects in the municipality such as the supply of 1,100 pcs of school furniture to selected schools, construction of a 3-seater W/C, 2 Washrooms, fence wall and playground at Fretsi Kindergarten, CHPS Compound at Ewusiejoe, Kajebil and Yabiw to be handed over within a fortnight.
Among the ongoing projects expected to be completed soon are 3-Unit Classroom Block with ancillary facilities at Asemkow, and construction of 10 No. Boreholes (hand-pump fitted) throughout the Municipality.
New projects which have gone through tendering and have been awarded as at July 1, 2020 include renovation of Assembly Hall at the cost of GH¢ 37,130.10, supply of goods for Assembly Hall at the cost of GH¢ 97,873.00, construction of 1 No. 4-seater Water Closet facility at the cost of GH¢42,044.22 and the construction of 2 No. mechanized borehole, water tank and their stands at the cost of GH¢98,864.28.
The rest are construction of 3 No. concrete stands and installation of water tanks at the cost of GH¢65,543.50, supply of 195 hexagonal tables and 1170 chairs for KG pupils at the cost of GH¢79,950.00, construction of 1 No. hand-pump fitted borehole at the cost of GH¢26,589.20 and, completion of 2-Unit KG Block with office and store and construction of 4-seater KVIP with 2 urinals at the cost of GH¢69, 480.00.
Meanwhile, renovation works at the Revenue Office located in the Agona-Nkwanta Market is ongoing and expected to be completed in four weeks to enhance and facilitate collection of revenues in the Municipality.
In addition, renovation works will be done on Internal Audit and Human Resource Managers Bungalow with subsequent renovation works to be done on the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Municipal Finance Officer and the Municipal Planning Officer’s Bungalows.
Works at the 10-seater W/C, 12 No. bathroom facility with funding from the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) is practically completed and is expected to be opened to the public soon.
On roads, the Assembly opened and constructed a total of 7,110 (2.7 km) of various width roads with the Apowa Ghacem Planning Area at the total cost of GH¢49,792.50 while the Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) awarded Phase 1 of the project for the upgrade of the Sankor – Cape-Three-Points road with funding from the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA).
The Feeder Roads Department of the Assembly has awarded the construction of 8km stretch of the 15km Barrier – Egyambra road with the expectation that the other half of the road will be awarded later in the year to ensure a comfortable ride for users.
