Public Relations Officer of the Rent Control Department, Emmanuel Kporsu has said the National Rental Assistance Scheme is transparent and credible with no political colors to make it easier for ordinary Ghanaians to access.
He said workers in the formal and informal can apply. Speaking to the media, he said, applicants would be responded to within ten days after application.
Mr. Kporsu added that applicants as part of the requirements would provide a payslip to know the income level of applicants. This move he said, is for people to benefit from the 30 percent set by the Scheme.
“The requirement is that you will provide your payslip for us to know your income level because we don’t want to advance money to the landlord and we don’t know your source of income, so when we know how much you earn that’s where the 30 percent comes in. Whether you are in the informal or formal sector, you qualify.” He said.
He said, they will continue to educate the general public, especially the landlords and ladies on the advantages of the Scheme, and called on the media to use their platforms to do so.
The Scheme which was launched by the Government of Ghana forms part of measures to provide decent accommodation for Ghanaians.
Under the program, Ghanaians over the age of 18 who have a current national ID card and a job with a verified source of income are eligible for a rent loan within five to ten working days.
The applicant pays the prospective landlord their entire monthly rent, while the prospective tenant pays the National Rental Assistance Scheme their monthly rent.
