Voters Register exhibition takes off with low turnout in STMA and EKMA
The Electoral Commission (EC) today, Friday, September 18 began an exhibition of the Voter Register in all the 2,943 polling stations in the region to enable eligible voters to correct their names, make inclusions and raise objections to ineligible persons on the roll.
The exhibition of the Voter Register is the final stage of the process to clean up the register ahead of the December 7, Presidential and Parliamentary elections.
The commencement of the exercise was generally successful in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis (STMA) and the Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipality (EKMA) of the Western Region and expected to last for eight (8) days beginning from 0700 hours to 1800 hours each day.
Though all the Centers visited by the Spice News were visible with safety protocols of the coronavirus, the turnout was very poor as most Centers were quiet and with few people showing up to verify their name.
At the Essikafo-Ambantem No. 2 Electoral Area in Takoradi, the 82/6 Polling Center had recorded 15 checks as of 9:57 out of the expected 518 voters while the Opposite Kyzz Fm Polling Center had recorded 27 checks as of 11:14 out of the expected 550 voters.
Meanwhile, at the 31st December Women’s Day Care 2 Polling Center at the Essikafo-Ambantem No. 1 Electoral Area in Takoradi, 44 people had checked their names as of 3:36 out of the 635 expected voters.
At the St. Anthony of Padua RC Church 1 Center in EKMA, one person out of 951 had checked their details as of 0750 hours, while two people out of 852 had checked their names at the St Anthony of Padua RC Church 2 as of 0807 hours.
At the Kwesimintsim Post Office A1, only five out of 659 registered voters had checked their names as of 0816 hours while at the Kwesimintsim Post Office A, a total of 11 people out of 673 had checked their details as of 0825 hours with 16 out of 607 checking their names at the Kwesimintsim Post Office B as of 0834 hours.
The trend was the same at the various centres such as Public Forum West 1, Public Forum West 2, the Chief Butcher House No. 1, and the Upper New Takoradi Polling Stations.
At the Saint Mark Anglican Church in Essikado, only one person had checked his name as of 0740 hours while at the Essikado Old Court, seven persons had done so, as at 0800 hours.
As of 0821 hours, one person had checked at the Essikado Brigade Hall 1 while six (6) people had done so at Essikado Brigade Hall 2.
Meanwhile, a total of 17 people checked their details at the Owuoayam Essikado Station Center as of 0832 hours while at the Ketan Methodist JHS 2, three people had checked their details with the Ketan STMA recording none as of 0900 hours.
